When OLE embedding a PDF file into another application's document, if that application is using OLE 1.0 (like Lotus Notes 3.x does) it is important to increase the memory partition of Acrobat Exchange to approximately 2 MB larger than the default.
When performing an "Insert > Object" into a OLE 1.0 application such as Lotus Notes, Acrobat Exchange will prompt for the file twice if the rendering format is text or bitmap. Just ignore the first dialog.
When doing a "Paste Special" of a PDF document, the paste link option is not supported. To paste a link use the "Insert > Object" command, check the link to file checkbox, and click the from file button.
Embedding or linking to PDF documents which contain an open password is not supported in this release.
If you are not using OLE and want to increase the start up speed and reduce the amount of memory used, remove the OLE plug-in from the Plug-ins folder in the Adobe Acrobat folder. This plug-in is not installed by default and is only necessary if you are using Acrobat and OLE.
If "Adobe Acrobat Document" is not listed in the objects list for the insert object command or if Acrobat does not launch when double clicking a embedded or linked PDF file then Acrobat has probably not been added to the registration database. To add Acrobat to the registration database make sure that the OLE plug-in is in the Acrobat plug-ins folder and that OLE is installed in the system and then run Acrobat Exchange or Reader. Acrobat will now be properly registered in the registration database.
With some applications, such as Lotus Notes, when trying to open or insert an Acrobat document the system will beep and then appear to hang. The system is not actually hung, but Acrobat has signaled an error and has not been brought to the front by the other application. Acrobat may have signaled the error due to too many files open, an open password on the document, low memory, or some other problem with the document. By bringing Acrobat to the front and quitting Acrobat the other application will stop waiting on Acrobat and the system will no longer appear to be hung.
